Companion creates custom carpentry and woodwork for design-minded homes. Serving Toronto, Hamilton, and surrounding areas, we design and build warm, thoughtful spaces with natural materials, clean lines, and a careful eye for detail.

Built with care.
Planned with purpose.

Every Companion project starts with a real conversation.

We listen closely, ask the right questions, and shape what we learn into custom work that feels considered, personal, and right for the space it belongs to. No cookie-cutter builds. No rushed quotes. No contractor jargon you need a translator for.

Just clear communication, thoughtful planning, and carefully made work that brings more beauty, function, and ease into your home.

Custom carpentry, cabinetry, and woodwork for spaces with a point of view.

From built-ins and millwork to outdoor spaces and special one-off projects, our work lives at the intersection of clean design, natural materials, and practical everyday use.

We love projects that feel a little different. A little more considered. The kind of thing that makes a room feel finished, useful, and quietly special.

Woodwork with a sense of place

Small by design.
Thoughtful by process.

Companion works with one client at a time, giving each project the focus, care, and attention to detail it deserves.

Because most of our work is custom, we take the time to plan before we build. Together, we define the design, scope, budget, and schedule so the process feels clear from the start and the finished result feels considered from every angle.

It is not always the industry norm. It is simply the only way we know how to do great work.

Meet Mike

Companion is led by Mike, a licensed Red Seal Carpenter with a background in blacksmithing, wooden tall ship restoration, high-end custom homes, music, travel, and a lifelong appreciation for art, culture, and well-made things.

His work is shaped by technical skill, creative instinct, and a genuine love for craft. He believes good carpentry should feel beautiful, useful, and at home in the space it joins.

The goal is always the same: do the work well, treat the home with care, and make the process feel collaborative, organized, and maybe even a little fun.

  • “Michael repaired our 1920s porch beautifully, blending the new work seamlessly into the existing structure. When he was finished, there was nothing left for us to do but enjoy it.”

  • “Mike is everything you could want and more when it comes to a carpenter. He’s the kind of guy who elevates the level of work of everyone around him and encourages you to do your absolute best. As a trade partner he has been a joy to work with as he is meticulously organized, professional, and fantastic when put in front of any of our clients.”

  • “Michael was kind, conscientious, and incredibly detail-oriented. We couldn’t be happier with the experience and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, skilled contractor.”

  • “Mike was absolutely exceptional: timely, professional, clean, and the finished product was stunning. 10/10, no notes.”
