Meet Mike

Companion is led by Mike, a licensed Red Seal Carpenter based between Toronto and Hamilton.

The name Companion was inspired by Mike’s late dog, Flynn, and the kind of steady presence good work should have: loyal, thoughtful, and built to stay with you.

Mike’s path to carpentry started with blacksmithing, where he learned patience, precision, and respect for materials. He later worked alongside Master Carpenters restoring wooden tall ships before studying at George Brown College and completing his apprenticeship on high-end custom homes.

That mix of traditional craft, technical training, and design instinct shapes the way Companion works today.

A thoughtful way to build

Mike has worked through every stage of construction, from planning and framing to trim work, cabinetry, and millwork. He brings that experience to custom projects that need more than a quick quote or off-the-shelf answer.

Companion is especially drawn to clean lines, natural materials, mid-century details, exposed plywood, bold colour, and work that feels considered without feeling overdone.

The goal is simple: build useful, beautiful things with care, communicate clearly, and make the process feel easier to be part of.

One project at a time

Every Companion project starts with a real conversation.

We listen closely, ask the right questions, and shape what we learn into custom work that feels considered, personal, and right for the space it belongs to. No cookie-cutter builds. No rushed quotes. No contractor jargon you need a translator for.

Just clear communication, thoughtful planning, and carefully made work that brings more beauty, function, and ease into your home.
